What Is a Diamond Cut Alloy Wheel?
A diamond cut alloy has a painted or powder-coated base colour, usually around the spokes and inner barrel, with a bright machined face. During manufacture, the wheel is mounted on a CNC lathe and a very fine layer of aluminium is cut from its surface. The tool leaves delicate circular lines that catch the light and give the wheel its clean, two-tone appearance.
Once cut, the exposed face is protected with clear lacquer. That lacquer matters. Bare aluminium will oxidise quickly when it meets water, road salt and brake dust. A quality refurbishment must therefore restore both the machined look and the protective coating.

It depends on what matters most to you. Diamond cutting is the choice for drivers who want the original factory two-tone appearance or a bright, high-end finish. It suits premium vehicles particularly well and can make a major difference to the overall presentation of the car.
Powder coating is usually the more resilient option for year-round driving. Because the whole visible surface is coated rather than machined and lacquered over exposed aluminium, there are fewer opportunities for moisture to attack the finish after a minor stone chip or kerb contact. It is also ideal if you want a complete colour change, such as gloss black, satin black, bronze or dark graphite.
For a daily driver that regularly faces wet country roads, winter salt and tight car parks, powder coating is often the practical choice.
